We got through the first full week and the students are starting to settle into the routine of 4th Grade. For those of you who attended last nights Open House, you could see how full our daily schedule is. On top of the regular curriculum, our class has been doing a fantastic job managing the funds for the Heroes for Harvey fundraiser. We will be taking a walking field trip to the post office on September 26 to mail the cards, and checks to the various charities.

Those students who signed up for beginning babd will start their instrument lessons next week. Lessons are given during one recess period per week.I know the students who signed up are very excited . After school enrichment activities confirmation slips were sent home today.  Those start next week as well.

Please remember to sign the Homework Assignment books daily.Students who have their books signed every night will get a prize from me at the end of the year.

The PTO is holding a gift wrap/ kitchen gadgets fundraiser. The money raised by the PTO helps to pay for enrichment activities, field trips, school equipment and technology and so much more.Consider helping out the PTO . They are always looking for volunteers.

Have a great weekend!!

Homework

Math: Rounding numbers through the 100thousands. Some good strategies to use are:

  • Make a number line with the smallest and largest number it could be and mark the halfway point. Mark on the line where the given number should go . This will tell you if the number should be rounded up or stay the same.
  • Underline the digit in the place value that is to be rounded. Circle the digit to the right . 5 and above, round up. Less than 5 , stay the same.

Afterschool activity forms need to be retuned. The cost is $55.00.

Tomorrow is a gym day so wear  or bring sneakers.

Water bottles are always encouraged.

This week has been an exciting week getting to know all of the classmates in Room 139. Hopefully the ease of the first week has made the transition from third to fourth grade a little less stressful. The class participated in a lot of activities revolved around getting to know each, team building, developing classroom rules and becoming familiar with the fourth grade curriculum. I expect to have an exciting year.

As we continue to build our classroom community, student work has been a collaborative effort. There is no homework tonight however, we are at the time of year when classes will be nominating student council representatives. I have asked any student who is interested in the assignment to write a letter of interest to the class expressing why s/he  would be a good choice. Students have been told that if elected, they must be able to get a ride to school on Tuesday mornings as the meeting start before most buses arrive.

It's still quite warm outside and many students are not coming to school with refillable water bottles. In order to have few disruptions in the classroom it is extremely helpful for everyone to have a water bottle that can be capped and kept at their desk.
